In Khabarovsk, the owner of 220 ASIC miners has reimbursed 2.75 million rubles in damages.
The first criminal case in Khabarovsk has been opened over unmetered electricity consumption for cryptocurrency mining. The local police press service said this.
According to case materials, in March 2021 a representative of one of the energy-supply companies contacted the police with a report of property damage in a particularly large amount.
Authorities established that a 32-year-old resident of Khabarovsk created a mining farm on the premises of a timber-processing plant. He installed an additional automatic circuit breaker in the transformer substation, which, according to investigators, enabled him to use significant quantities of electricity bypassing metering devices.
The farm operated for three months. During this time, the damage from its activities exceeded 2.75 million rubles.
During a search, police seized about 220 ASIC miners belonging to the suspect.
The defendant has now fully reimbursed the energy company for the damages. The maximum penalty for causing property damage is up to five years’ imprisonment.
ForkLog previously reported that in Syktyvkar a miner was sentenced to a two-year suspended sentence for stealing electricity worth 5.7 million rubles.
