Joseph Lubin Promises Rewards for LINEA Holders Amid Price Drop

The 20% decline in the LINEA token from the eponymous L2 network following its launch has sparked skepticism within the community. In response, ConsenSys founder Joseph Lubin discussed rewards for long-term asset holders.

“If we find that you held N LINEA tokens for M days, it could lead to new coins appearing in your account,” he wrote.

Lubin added that users might qualify for future airdrops—from both ConsenSys and other ecosystem projects. According to him, MetaMask and Linea are already preparing a joint initiative, though he did not disclose details.

What is the Utility?

Lubin’s comment was a response to a question from a crypto community member with the nickname Math fFinance, who doubted the practical application of the LINEA token.

“Users do not understand what to do with Linea coins. A staking or lending platform needs to be implemented,” he emphasized.

A trader under the pseudonym Corey Crypto accused the project of creating a meme coin. In his view, LINEA lacks utility, and the Linea team has not devised a way to incentivize holders.

Some suggested an alternative—launching a token buyback program. They believe such a strategy could be more effective in encouraging long-term holding.

“What you said attracts speculators but will deter real investors. Most of those who received the airdrop will not listen to you—their work is already done. Perhaps this is your true goal, but if you really want people to hold your coins, it’s not what you say, but what you do that matters. Pay attention to HYPE and PUMP,” advised one user.

On September 10, major exchanges listed the LINEA token. Within a day, the coin’s price fell by more than 22%—from a peak of $0.04 to the current level of $0.02.

On the same day, an airdrop took place. According to Dune, 460,098 addresses claimed 76.5% of the tokens available for distribution.

Back on the day of the coin’s launch, the Linea network experienced a failure. The Polygon blockchain also encountered issues.
