Malaysia Seizes 411 Bitcoin Miners in Series of Raids

Malaysian police conducted a series of raids to crack down on illegal miners and confiscated equipment, according to the local publication The Star.

Police initially arrested four suspects for organising illegal connections to the power grid for mining Bitcoin.

After questioning the detainees, officers seized 411 mining devices from several premises.

According to investigators, the illicit miners cost Tenaga Nasional Berhad, the local electricity utility, about 420,000 Malaysian ringgit (roughly $102,000) in the past two months.

The detainees say they were merely cleaners in these premises. Authorities are seeking the organiser of the illicit mining operations.

Earlier in Malaysia, miners were detained, suspected of large-scale electricity theft, and 148 units of equipment were confiscated.
