MetaMask team updates privacy settings

ConsenSys added privacy settings to the popular non-custodial wallet MetaMask in the browser extension to facilitate the process of changing RPC-provider.

Starting today, extension users will see an updated experience when creating a new wallet, as well as an update in their privacy and security settings.

Existing users can find the option to switch the RPC provider in the Settings menu; new users will find it under Advanced privacy settings.

Users can also configure additional options for sending requests to third-party services (for phishing detection and identification of incoming transactions).

On 24 November 2022, ConsenSys announced an update to its privacy policy, which drew a wave of criticism from the community. Users pointed to a reduction in their privacy and increased risks of identifying individuals for law-enforcement purposes.

On 6 December, in response to community concerns, the company explained that it would shorten the retention period for collected IP identifiers and wallet addresses to seven days.
