National Bank of Ukraine to test salary payments to civil servants in e-hryvnia by year-end

The pilot project to pay salaries to employees of the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine in e-hryvnia could be launched as early as this year. stated Arsen Makarchuk, head of the strategy and development department at the National Bank.

“There is effectively a limited ability to use this instrument, but from a technological standpoint we will pilot it this year,”

The full launch of the e-hryvnia will take place no earlier than the end of 2022, he added.

In August, Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov allowed that employees of the ministry could be among the first to start receiving salaries in the digital currency developed by the central bank.

Participants of the round table also discussed the recently adopted law “On Virtual Assets.” According to them, at this stage secondary acts and changes to the Tax Code are being developed, without which the new law will not come into force.

Deputy Minister of Digital Transformation for IT development Alexander Bornyakov stressed that the subject of regulation of the law “On Virtual Assets” is primarily service providers, not cryptocurrencies. According to him, Bitcoin cannot be controlled, and therefore cannot be regulated at the state level.

Earlier, ForkLog analysed the main provisions of the law “On Virtual Assets” with its authors, the Ministry of Digital Transformation and independent lawyers.
