Opinion: Full Ethereum 2.0 launch expected in 2022
The founder of the MyEtherWallet (MEW) wallet, Kosala Hemachandra, believes that the full-scale version of Ethereum 2.0 should not be expected before 2022. He is confident in the launch of the project’s first phase by the end of this year.
“My forecast is that the full reality of ETH 2.0 will come only after a couple of years,” Hemachandra shared his expectations in an interview Cointelegraph.
Originally, ETH 2.0’s launch was planned for January 3. Developers subsequently moved the date to the second quarter — lead developer Justin Drake proposed launching the zero phase on July 30, the network’s fifth anniversary. Now the event is expected to take place on November 4, provided there are no glitches after three months of testing the final testnet, whose start is scheduled for August 4.
What is Ethereum 2.0?
Right now, everyone is focused on the first phase. I am convinced this will happen this year. Only the final testnet remains. The community can already test it for bugs,” said the MEW founder.
In Hemachandra’s view, the cautious approach to launching ETH 2.0 was warranted. He believes the process takes time, “when it comes to users’ funds and an immutable blockchain”.
“We have seen this before in past Ethereum iterations. ETH 2.0 will again overturn notions of blockchain technology. A safe and resilient system will be created, capable of competing with centralized scaling solutions,” added Hemachandra.
Earlier, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin urged speeding up the preparation of ETH 2.0 clients for the first phase to test their operability in practice.
Recently, the developers launched a “launchpad” for Ethereum 2.0 validators.
