Power outages for miners in Kazakhstan extended for another week
The Kazakhstan grid operator KEGOC has sent miners a letter informing them of the extension of electricity-supply restrictions until February 7. The document is in ForkLog’s possession.
The company said the measures were due to the ongoing ‘tense situation in maintaining the balance between electricity supply and capacity’.
The head of the National Association of Blockchain and Data Center Industry of Kazakhstan, Alan Dordzhiev, told ForkLog that business representatives are awaiting clarity from the Ministry of Energy to plan further operations in the country.
Earlier, KEGOC initially halted electricity supplies to miners from January 24 to January 31. Many have already begun leaving the country in search of other jurisdictions in which to place their equipment.
According to the Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance, Kazakhstan has become one of the world’s leaders in Bitcoin hashrate amid the migration of miners from China.
