Roskomsvoboda appeals Tor blockage in Russia
The Roskomsvoboda team, acting on behalf of the Tor Project, which runs the Tor network, appeals a block on access to it in Russia.
The lawyers have already filed an appellate appeal with the Saratov District Court.
The Roskomsvoboda team said the blocking decision was unlawful, as it violates the constitutional right to freely provide, receive and disseminate information and to protect the privacy of private life.
The lawyers also noted that the case was heard without the participation of representatives of the Tor Project, which \”violated their procedural rights and the adversarial nature of the proceedings\”.
Earlier in December, specialists began documenting restrictions on access to the Tor network in Russia.
Later, the Tor Project received a letter from Roskomnadzor threatening a block due to information prohibited on the territory of the Russian Federation. The formal basis was a 2017 decision of the Saratov District Court.
According to the experts, for restricting access to the network in Russia the main Tor site was blocked, from which one could download the browser, the IP addresses of public Tor nodes and public lists of Tor bridges, as well as traffic using DPI technology.
