Sabrent to release SSD with up to 54-petabyte write endurance for Chia mining

Sabrent announced the release of a specialized series of SSDs for mining the Chia cryptocurrency.

The line consists of a PlotRipper 2 TB model and two PlotRipper Pro devices with 1 TB and 2 TB capacities.

The endurance of the standard 2 TB version is 10,000 [simple_tooltip content=’суммарное число записываемых байтов’]TBW[/simple_tooltip]. In the Pro version with 1 TB capacity this figure reaches 27,000, and in the 2 TB version — 54,000 TBW.

«TBW rating of the PlotRipper and PlotRipper Pro models is 18 times higher than that of ordinary NVMe drives», said Sabrent.

According to Storage Review, the devices оснащены with the latest Phison E18 controllers, as well as NAND flash memory from Micron.

Presumably, the PlotRipper 2 TB model uses NAND chips totaling 4 TB, and in the Pro versions — 8 TB. However, the manufacturer limited the available capacity to 2 TB via firmware, which allowed a significant increase in their endurance.

As of writing, the total disk space occupied by the Chia cryptocurrency exceeds 16.5 exabytes. The price of XCH is $798.

Earlier, Team Group released an SSD with a 12-petabyte write endurance for Chia mining.

Earlier, Chia Network Inc. raised $61 million in funding and planned an IPO. The company’s valuation during the funding round stood at $500 million.
