OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and former Apple design chief Jony Ive are reportedly collaborating on a smartphone-like gadget equipped with AI capabilities. This was reported by The Information, citing sources.
According to their information, the duo aims to secure $1 billion in funding for the new project, with potential investors including Thrive Capital and Emerson Collective.
Insiders suggest the device will offer users an intuitive way to integrate neural networks into daily life.
The publication notes that Altman is known for his interest in screenless AI interaction. It is anticipated that he will bring his expertise to the project, potentially incorporating similar principles.
Jony Ive was responsible for the design of many iconic Apple gadgets, including the iPhone. After leaving the company, he founded LoveForm, a firm that designs devices for various companies.
The partners have also reportedly held discussions with SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son. They are allegedly considering the creation of a new company that combines the skills and technologies of their organizations.
The involvement of leading chip developer Arm, in which SoftBank holds a significant stake, could further enhance the project’s scale and capabilities.
It has also emerged that Tang Tan, the former head of iPhone and watch design at Apple who left his position in February to join Ive’s LoveForm, will also be part of the team.
Although the project is still in its early stages, sources indicate that the team is focused on creating devices specifically designed for home use.
In January, Worldcoin developers announced plans to make their orbs resemble an Apple product.
