
SEC begins review of WisdomTree’s bid to launch a Bitcoin ETF
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has begun reviewing заявки of WisdomTree Asset Management to launch an exchange-traded fund (ETF) based on the first cryptocurrency.
The price of WisdomTree Bitcoin Trust shares will be calculated based on the CME CF Bitcoin Index, which includes quotes for Bitcoin on major spot trading platforms.
WisdomTree intends to list the Bitcoin ETF on the Cboe BZX exchange under the ticker BTCW.
In addition to WisdomTree, VanEck, NYDIG, Bitwise, Valkyrie Digital Assets, Kryptoin, SkyBridge Capital with First Trust Advisors and Fidelity Investments have filed applications to launch a Bitcoin ETF.
In March the regulator began reviewing the VanEck filing.
In February 2021, Canada registered the first Bitcoin ETF in North America. followed suit.
Earlier, SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce said the market was ready to launch a Bitcoin ETF based on the first cryptocurrency.
Morgan Creek’s CEO Mark Yusko expressed strong confidence that the regulator would eventually approve such instruments.
