Strange Bitcoin jokes posted on Elon Musk's Twitter account; hack suspected

A series of tweets about Bitcoin appeared on the account of Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk, surprising the community. In his bio, Musk is now listed as the former Dogecoin CEO.

The jokes concerned a safe word. In BDSM practice, this is a pre-arranged word that partners use to stop a session.

In one of the tweets, Bitcoin was named as that word.

Just kidding, who needs a safe word anyway!?

To forestall any doubt about the context, a risqué image was subsequently posted.

“Bitcoin is almost the same crap as fiat money,” reads the following message.

Then a tweet about the cryptocurrency Dogecoin appeared on the account.

Users suspected a hack.

Last year, Musk won the spoof April Fool’s poll in which users were asked to vote for the most suitable candidate to be Dogecoin’s CEO.

“Dogecoin may be my favourite cryptocurrency. It’s pretty cool,” he wrote in response.

In July this year, Musk suggested on Twitter the prospect of using Dogecoin technology as a global financial system. Following his tweet, the token’s price rose by 17%.

Today’s post also pushed up the coin’s price.

As a reminder, in July attackers hacked Elon Musk’s, Bill Gates’, Jeff Bezos’s Twitter accounts, and Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao’s, among others. They posted messages about a fake giveaway of 5,000 BTC.

In November, hackers using Musk’s Twitter account promoted a cryptocurrency scam.
