Survey: Americans have heard more about Dogecoin than Ethereum
The meme cryptocurrency Dogecoin proved more recognizable than Ethereum among US citizens. This is evidenced by the results of a joint Harris Poll and CouponCabin survey, reports Cointelegraph.
The study involved more than 2,000 adult Americans, the majority of whom (89%) had heard of cryptocurrency at least once.
71% of respondents are familiar with Bitcoin. 29% know Dogecoin, and 21% know Ethereum. A similar figure applies to the USD Coin from the Centre consortium, whose market capitalization on May 24 surpassed $20 billion.
About 18% of respondents said they were familiar with Litecoin. 10% had heard of Stellar (XLM).
Nearly a third of respondents (31%) are confident that cryptocurrencies could be the future of money. Digital assets were viewed as a scheme for quick enrichment by 23%, while 19% described them as a ‘dubious’ technology.
Almost half of respondents (44%) said they would be willing to receive cryptocurrency as part of incentive programmes or cashback.
In May, Google search interest in Dogecoin surpassed that for Bitcoin for the first time.
Between May 9 and May 15, when Bitcoin’s price dipped to $50,000, Google search queries related to cryptocurrencies reached all-time highs.
Four in ten Mastercard users plan to use digital currencies in 2022.
