Switzerland to implement a legal framework for blockchain regulation in 2021

The Swiss Ministry of Finance has begun discussing a decree that will implement a legal framework for regulating blockchain and the crypto industry at the state level in August 2021, it says in a press release.

Discussion of the document among cantons, political parties and interested groups will conclude on February 2. The aim of the package of amendments is to adapt the law to developments in blockchain technology and the cryptocurrency industry.

Earlier, the legal norms for the trading of digital securities, the asset-recovery procedure, as well as the requirements for launching trading platforms approved in the Senate and the House of Representatives.

In September, the University of Lugano and the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland created the Blockchain Technologies Association to support and develop blockchain.
