Tether Freezes $28.7 Million USDT Across 13 Addresses

Tether has frozen approximately $28.67 million in USDT across 12 addresses on the TRON network and an additional ~$99,630 on one Ethereum wallet, according to MistTrack.

Experts noted that the frozen funds had been moved through several well-known crypto platforms such as Gate, KuCoin, and HitBTC, and had interacted with addresses on a stop list.

The issuer of USDT regularly freezes assets due to suspicions of illegal activity. On April 17, Tether halted the movement of $870,000 across three crypto wallets.

In March, the company’s similar actions regarding four TRON addresses holding 601,798 USDT were commented on by WhaleWire founder and CEO Jacob King:

“No explanations, no warnings, just another day in centralized stablecoin land! It’s a stark reminder of the control that lies in the hands of a few.”

According to a dashboard on Dune, the company has blocked 2,203 wallets containing USDT worth a total of $1.43 billion. The largest of these holds frozen tokens valued at ~$87.5 million.

In early 2024, UN experts highlighted the popularity of USDT among fraudsters and money launderers. Tether representatives expressed disappointment with the assessment by the international organization’s specialists. The company emphasized its commitment to cooperating with law enforcement agencies.

As stated by Tether, by August 2024, the stablecoin issuer helped recover more than $108.8 million in USDT for government agencies in 40 jurisdictions.
