The9 to host Bitcoin miners at BitRiver data centre
Nasdaq-listed The9 has signed an agreement to host cryptocurrency mining equipment with Russian company BitRiver through its 100%-owned subsidiary NBTC Limited. This is stated in the company’s press release.
Under the agreement, BitRiver will reserve 15 MW of electrical capacity for The9’s ASIC miners at a data centre located in the village of Mukhorshibir in the Republic of Buryatia.
“All BitRiver data centres run on green electricity, as evidenced by the certificates [simple_tooltip content=’Международный стандарт сертификации возобновляемой энергии’]I-REC[/simple_tooltip],” said ForkLog’s Roman Zabuga.
The contract runs for two years. At the end of the term, both parties have the right to automatically extend the cooperation for one more year.
In January 2021, The9 announced its entry into the mining industry. Within two days of the announcement, its shares surged by 140%.
In late January the company purchased 26,007 ASIC miners from unnamed suppliers, and in March expanded capacity by purchasing equipment from MicroBT and Bitmain.
In June The9 signed an agreement to acquire the green mining company Montcrypto.
