«As with Twitter, digital currencies operate without global barriers. We are pleased to include Ethereum in addition to Bitcoin payments, which will allow more people to participate in the digital economy,» said a Twitter representative, TechCrunch reports.
The feature does not support ENS domains — only full Ethereum addresses.
The capability to send tips in Bitcoin was implemented in September 2021 via the Lightning Network in collaboration with Strike.
Twitter’s other payment partners include Cash App, GoFundMe, Patreon, Wealthsimple, Venmo, as well as fintech providers Paga, Paytm and Barter by Flutterwave, added alongside Ethereum.
In January 2022, Twitter integrated the ability to add NFTs as profile avatars, which entails linking to an Ethereum wallet.
This followed Jack Dorsey, a well-known Bitcoin advocate, stepping down as the company’s CEO in November.
