Two Russians face up to 50 years in prison for cryptocurrency fraud in Thailand
Thai police arrested two Russian nationals on suspicion of cryptocurrency fraud that led to the deaths of several local residents, according to ТАСС.
According to media reports, Daniil Aldunenkov and Roman Brik conducted illicit cryptocurrency and banking operations.
The Royal Thai Police said it had obtained arrest warrants for 11 suspects who opened bank accounts for the perpetrators. There is an aggravating circumstance in the case — a local resident killed his wife and two minor children after the scammers forced the woman to transfer a large sum borrowed on credit to their account.
As a result, Aldunenkov and Brik were denied bail. They face a prison term of 30 to 50 years.
Earlier, ForkLog reported that Hong Kong police made 458 arrests in 314 money-laundering cases totalling nearly $60 million, a quarter of which involved digital assets.
