Ukrainian MP could not confirm ownership of declared cryptocurrencies

The Ukrainian People’s Deputy Anna Skorohod did not provide to the National Agency for Prevention of Corruption (NAZK) documents confirming the existence of cryptocurrencies she had previously declared. This was reported by «Slovo i Delo».

In her declaration for 2020, Skorohod listed 44 BTC, 130 ETH and 135 ETC. She also declared 118 BTC, 78 ETH and 350 ETC, presumably belonging at that time to her husband Aleksey Alyakin. She did not provide documents confirming the accuracy of these data.

«The declarant restricted himself to general explanations regarding obtaining ownership of cryptocurrency without providing documents certifying the facts of acquisition and possession of the cryptocurrency as of the end of the reporting period», the agency said.

The total value of the cryptocurrencies at the time of acquisition, for which Skorohod did not provide documents, amounts to more than 2.7 million hryvnias (over $106,000).

During the NAZK check, Skorohod said that, due to her lack of knowledge, all cryptocurrency operations in her name were carried out by her husband.

«Where the keys and paper documents are today, the declarant does not know. After the divorce, Aleksey Alyakin did not provide access to them, which is why a criminal case has been opened», the NAZK noted.

According to the agency, Skorohod and Alyakin lived together from December 2015 to April 2021. She submitted the declaration on March 30, 2021. Based on this, NAZK did not take into account Skorohod’s explanations, as she was still living with her husband at the time of filing the declaration.

Earlier, Skorohod filed a police report about passport theft. Law enforcement officers in Kyiv region opened a criminal case of large-scale fraud.

NAZK said that the explanations and documents received from the deputy do not indicate that this is a case of cryptocurrency theft.

At the same time, NAZK did not find signs of illicit enrichment, conflicts of interest or unjustified assets in Skorohod’s declaration.

As a reminder, in their 2020 declarations Ukrainian officials indicated a total of 46 351 BTC. In April, NAZK stated that these data would be checked.

The public association “Virtual Assets of Ukraine” and the inter-factional deputies’ association Blockchain4Ukraine proposed to indicate in declarations the addresses of cryptocurrency wallets.
