United States: IGOBIT fraud scheme organizer sentenced

A U.S. court found 50-year-old Washington state resident Asa Sen-Kler guilty of organizing a cryptocurrency fraud scheme. The Department of Justice reports.

According to the release, he attracted investments through the IGOBIT token sale, claiming that it was supported by the intergovernmental World Sports Alliance. Sen-Kler presented the latter as a UN body, but in reality they were not affiliated.

He promised investors guaranteed profits and a stake in IGOBIT. He used the funds for his own needs, including meals at upscale Manhattan restaurants, airfare and online shopping.

According to authorities, more than 60 people were victims of the scheme. The loss exceeded $600,000.

In 2019, Sen-Kler was charged. The Department of Justice says that on September 15, 2022, the court sentenced him to 42 months in prison and ordered restitution.

Earlier, Dutch police arrested a 39-year-old man on suspicion of laundering funds stolen through a malicious update to the Electrum wallet.

Earlier in September, U.S. resident Joshua Nicholas admitted involvement in the EmpiresX cryptocurrency pyramid worth $100 million.
