Winklevoss Twins Agree to Explain Bitcoin to a Well-Known Trader

Dave Portnoy, founder of the sports media platform Barstool Sports, who turned to stock trading amid the COVID-19 pandemic, asked the Winklevoss brothers to explain how Bitcoin works. The twins agreed.

Due to pandemic-induced restrictions, professional sports events were temporarily halted virtually worldwide, which negatively impacted Barstool Sports’ business. Instead, Portnoy decided to take up stock trading, streaming the process as part of his own show, Davey Day Trader Global.

The initiative earned him popularity on Wall Street and beyond. Portnoy’s Twitter account is followed by 1.7 million people.

In response to Portnoy’s expressed interest in Bitcoin, Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss accepted the trader’s invitation. Portnoy noted that he wanted to buy all the bitcoins in circulation.

During the earlier broadcast, he stated that the process of buying and storing Bitcoin seemed too complex to him. Portnoy said he bought cryptocurrency at the early stage of his trading career, but later lost access to it. He expressed willingness to try again if the process did not require detailed knowledge of how Bitcoin works.

In a subsequent tweet, Portnoy wondered whether Bitcoin can be hacked. Upon learning that even a supercomputer would take billions of years to do so, Portnoy noted:

“Here’s my first lesson to Bitcoin supporters. Who invented supercomputers? The human brain. Who has the biggest brain? Me.”

Earlier, the writer J.K. Rowling asked for help understanding Bitcoin. Elon Musk and Vitalik Buterin responded to her request, but later she called the post trolling.
