The company said that more than 10,000 customers joined the waitlist in the first hours.
Wirex added gamification elements to the process. If you share the waitlist on social networks, you can move up in it and become one of the first holders of the new card.
The startup continues to attract users to roll out the payment card across the European Economic Area. It is expected that in November the card will be available to UK residents, in December to the United States. It will launch in other European markets and in Japan in early 2021.
The multi-currency Mastercard debit card is linked to 19 crypto and fiat assets. Users will not have to convert or withdraw cryptocurrency to spend it.
“The technology we have developed promotes the adoption of digital assets by merchants, and also enables the withdrawal of cryptocurrency stored on your account via ATMs,” said a Wirex spokesperson.
The company is currently exploring potential deals with global payment providers.
Back in June, Wirex became the first crypto company to obtain licensed participant status in the Mastercard network.
Plans to create a joint payment card were announced in September.
