zkSync developers announce mainnet launch of scaling solution on Ethereum

In November, the Matter Labs team will launch the second‑layer scaling solution zkSync 2.0 on the Ethereum mainnet for a limited group of users.

Over the last year we’ve been heads down working to scale Ethereum and accelerate its adoption. Today, we’re happy to announce that zkSync — the first zkEVM rollup — will be live on mainnet in 100 days,

zkSync is a second‑layer solution built on the zero-knowledge proofs protocol, which is compatible with the EVM. It uses the ZK-Rollups approach to reduce the load on the main network by batching transactions into groups.

Because the project supports the EVM, developers of decentralized applications will be able to create and deploy smart contracts in an environment compatible with Ethereum’s native programming languages — Solidity and Vyper.

The mainnet launch will occur in several stages.

In November, the team will deploy zkSync 2.0 without external projects connected. Matter Labs explained that this is necessary to test the system.

“We will subject the system to a series of stress tests with real money. They will help us ensure that everything works correctly and performs the expected functions,” the statement says.

Then the developers will hand over the project’s codebase for audit, publish the technical documentation, and complete other necessary preparations. After this, access to zkSync 2.0 will be granted to a limited group of users.

The public alpha version of the solution will be launched by the end of 2022.

Earlier, Matter Labs deployed zkSync 2.0 on the test network of the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization.

Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin has described ZK-Rollups as central to the scaling concept of the blockchain.
