Office building in St. Petersburg catches fire due to cryptocurrency mining equipment
On January 12, at 5 p.m., EMERCOM of Saint Petersburg received a report of a fire in an office building on Akademika Pavlova Street. According to witnesses, the blaze could have been caused by cryptocurrency mining equipment.
An hour later, firefighters extinguished the fire on the building’s first floor.
The incident left the premises scorched over an area of 30 square metres. There were no fatalities or injuries.
Earlier in November, in one of Saint Petersburg’s residential buildings, a fire also occurred, caused by a mining farm. The equipment owner was hospitalized with burns to the hands, back and neck.
Firefighters later determined that the mining farm operated without a cooling system.
