OnlyFans adds support for NFTs

OnlyFans adds support for NFTs. Users can set non-fungible tokens as profile avatars, according to Reuters.

“Our mission is to empower creators to realise their potential. This feature is the first step in exploring the role NFTs can play on our platform,” said Amrapali Gan, chief executive of the company.

OnlyFans supports tokens on the Ethereum blockchain. A network icon confirming NFT authenticity will appear on the corresponding avatars. The company noted that the feature had appeared on the platform as early as December 2021.

OnlyFans launched in 2016. As of the end of 2021, the platform had more than 2 million content creators and over 180 million users registered. Payments to creators exceeded $5 billion.

Social networks are increasingly exploring NFT possibilities. In January, developer Nima Owji noted that Reddit is testing a feature allowing token images to be used as profile pictures.

In a conversation with TechCrunch, a representative of the social platform confirmed the information.

In December 2021, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri said the company was actively exploring the NFT space. He said the service aims to make tokens more accessible to a broad audience.

In January 2022, Financial Times reported on plans by Meta to integrate non-fungible tokens on Facebook and Instagram. According to the publication, the corporation is also working on a prototype platform that would allow issuing NFTs.

In the same month, Twitter added the ability to add NFTs as profile avatars.
