OpenAI posts jobs for its robotics team
OpenAI will build robots with custom sensor suites, according to Caitlin Kalinowski, head of robotics and consumer devices.
Really excited to be posting our FIRST Robotics hardware roles for @OpenAI, including two very senior tech lead engineering (IC) roles and a TPM Manager.
The first role is for an **EE Sensing Engineer** to help us design the sensor suite for our robots.

She posted on X a list of robotics-related openings. The company is hiring:
- a sensing engineer;
- a robot designer with experience in motors, actuators and gear trains;
- TPM manager responsible for setting up the lab and ensuring smooth operations.
“Working across the full model stack, we are integrating cutting-edge hardware and software to explore a wide range of robot form factors. We aim to seamlessly combine high-level artificial intelligence capabilities with the constraints of physical robotic platforms,” — it says in one of the postings.
Earlier, media reported OpenAI’s interest in developing humanoid robots. In 2021, the company abandoned those ambitions, quietly closing its robotics division.
The bots will eventually reach “full-scale production”, it says in the published listing.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman expects a full launch of AI agents in 2025.
