Orlando opens 2,500 metaverse developer roles
Orlando, Florida mayor Buddy Dyer announced the opening of 2,500 metaverse-related positions as part of efforts to turn the city into a MetaCenter, according to ArPost.
Applications are sought from software developers, systems engineers, and architects of metaverse workspaces.
The publication notes that in recent years Orlando has become a leading hub for companies seeking to deploy innovations and explore the possibilities of new technologies.
A base for turning the city into a metacenter is the proximity to Cape Canaveral, as well as the establishment of the University of Central Florida (UCF), which trains specialists for the space industry.
“Then Orlando became the epicentre of entertainment when Walt Disney arrived in the city. This collision of creative entertainment and technological achievement laid the groundwork for the ecosystem that exists here today,” explained David Adelson, head of innovations at the Orlando Economic Partnership.
Local startups include Disney, Red 6, and BrandX. The latter collaborates with NASA and Microsoft.
“The roster of leaders of our companies involved in next-generation games, entertainment, AI, AR / VR, IoT and training through simulation joining these efforts continues to grow,” Adelson explained.
The organization launched the region’s digital twin ‘for research’ for interested parties.
Partnerships among local authorities, higher education institutions, and business helped create Creative Village — a 68-acre innovation district. It houses UCF, Electronic Arts’ headquarters, and other institutions.
From March 28 to 31, the second Virtual Fashion Week will take place in the Decentraland metaverse — MVFW 2023.
Earlier, Animoca Brands CEO Robby Yung said that creating metaverses will take at least ten years.
