Peskov: Russia is unequivocally not ready to recognise Bitcoin as a means of payment

Recognising Bitcoin as a means of payment in Russia would only harm the financial system, said Dmitry Peskov, the spokesperson for the Russian president. This was reported by RIA Novosti.

He called Bitcoin a \”quasi-currency\” and said that Russia is \”undoubtedly not ready\” to recognise the first cryptocurrency as a means of payment.

\n\n\n\n

\”There is not the slightest reason to take such steps,\” Peskov said.

\n\n\n\n

He said that de facto equating cryptocurrency with monetary instruments \”can bring nothing but harm to the financial and economic system.\”

\n\n\n\n

Earlier, the Bank of Russia called it unlikely that countries with large economies would follow El Salvador’s path, where the first cryptocurrency was recognised as an official means of payment.

\n\n\n\n

On 7 September in El Salvador, the law took effect recognizing Bitcoin as a legal means of payment.
