Public Services, Anti-Corruption Efforts, Infrastructure Improvement and Other Blockchain Initiatives

Blockchain technology remains one of the hottest trends among financial, governmental, and commercial organisations worldwide. ForkLog magazine offers an overview of the most interesting recent initiatives.

Gibraltar integrates blockchain into government platform

The Government of Gibraltar announced plans to integrate the RSK blockchain into the eGov government platform to improve the quality of services provided.

“Gibraltar has positioned itself as a jurisdiction for innovative companies developing and offering blockchain solutions. Implementing the technology in our processes will improve the interaction between our community and the government,” said Albert Isola, Gibraltar’s Minister for Digital and Financial Services.

Authorities are collaborating with Bitso, the largest cryptocurrency exchange in Latin America, and the IOVlabs team behind the RSK blockchain.

In its initial phase, the initiative will focus on secure storage of government documents and personal data.

Puerto Rico to implement blockchain to combat corruption

The Caribbean island territory of Puerto Rico will ensure transparency of operations in the public sector using blockchain, Bloomberg reports.

The move was prompted by corruption scandals among officials. In one case, the mayor of Cataño, Félix Delgado, pleaded guilty to taking bribes totaling more than $100,000.

Speaker of the Puerto Rico House of Representatives, Rafael Hernández, spoke of planned consultations with blockchain industry representatives.

According to him, the initiative will also form part of a plan to turn the island into a hub for cryptocurrency and blockchain innovation.

Florida to use blockchain to improve urban infrastructure

Governor Ron DeSantis published budget recommendations for the state’s 2022/2023 fiscal year, in which he also proposed using blockchain to improve urban infrastructure.

In the subsection “Building a Crypto-Friendly Florida” the funding for blockchain programs is set at a total of $500 000.

These funds are expected to be divided evenly between two pilot projects: vehicle registration and Medicaid transaction authentication to prevent potential fraud.

SE2 and Digital Asset to integrate blockchain for life insurance

The life insurance service provider SE2 has entered into a collaboration with software provider Digital Asset to use blockchain in the life insurance sector, Ledger Insights reports.

The implementation of the technology will consolidate disparate client data into a common system, prevent fraud, and accelerate the digitization of document workflows.
