Razer, a leading global producer of computer gaming hardware and peripherals, is considering entering the cryptocurrency market.

CEO Min-Liang Tan said that during the annual shareholders’ meeting one participant asked about Razer’s plans for the crypto industry.

«Our users are interested in cryptocurrency, but we are concerned about its impact on the GPU market and the environment», — Tan replied.

He added that the company is currently studying these issues. Tan himself is also at an early stage of understanding the differences between digital assets and their technologies.

«It is unlikely that we will launch our own cryptocurrency, but I do not rule out that we might begin accepting one or more coins for our hardware and services», the head of Razer concluded.

One of the users in the comments noted that cryptocurrencies reduce the number of customers buying the company’s products.

“I gave up building a gaming PC because I could not hope to get a decent graphics card due to these energy-hungry and environment-destroying bastards. No PC — no need for a mouse or a keyboard,” he wrote.

In the first quarter of 2021, Nvidia — one of the world’s two largest graphics-processor manufacturers — saw sales rise by 84%. In the company recognized the substantial contribution of miners to the growth of the metric.

The main market is gamers, and Nvidia is taking steps to limit purchases of graphics cards for cryptocurrency mining, artificially reducing the hash rate of certain models.
