Romania to launch a national NFT marketplace

The National Institute for Research and Development in Informatics of Romania will launch a government NFT platform to spur Web3 adoption in the country. Cointelegraph reports.

Alongside the launch, ICI D|Services will unveil five unique NFT collections on 26 April. The initiative seeks to forge links between private and public institutions and their users.

The NFT marketplace will allow clients to create, issue and trade non-fungible tokens. It is developed in partnership with the blockchain project MultiversX (formerly Elrond Network).

Paul Nicolescu-Mizil Georghe, coordinator of the blockchain laboratory at the National Institute for Research and Development in Informatics, said the project is backed by the country’s government.

“Our institute aims to build a bridge between younger generations and the values of public institutions, creating a zone of comfort for engaging with the digital sphere,” he added.

According to the expert, government backing of innovative projects such as ICI D|Services boosts the country’s potential, creates new sources of income and supports economic growth.

Earlier, in February 2023, the School of Professional and Continuing Education at New York University announced a partnership with nonprofit Near Foundation to launch the Web3 Learning Workshop.

In the same month, the cryptocurrency exchange Binance signed a memorandum of understanding with the Georgia Innovation and Technology Agency to implement blockchain initiatives.
