
Rosseti: Bitcoin miners in Dagestan stole electricity worth 70 million rubles since the start of the year
Dagestan ranks first among North Caucasus regions in the number of detected cases of electricity theft for cryptocurrency mining. сообщили representatives of the local Rosseti branch.
Since the start of 2021, Dagenergo specialists, together with law enforcement, identified 25 mining farms, which in total consumed 26 million kWh. The damage from their activities amounted to more than 70 million rubles.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, eight criminal cases have been opened against the offenders, and in ten cases individuals have been held administratively liable.
Rosseti North Caucasus proposed to the Russian Ministry of Energy to advocate lowering the threshold of property damage for electricity theft at which criminal liability is triggered.
Earlier last week, Dagestan police reported the discovery of three large mining farms, illegally connected to power grids. The total damage from their operation amounted to more than 1.8 million rubles.
