Since March, Roskomnadzor began slowing the social network’s speed in Russia. The agency threatened to apply similar measures to Google’s services.
On May 25, the court fined the latter на 6 млн рублей for failing to remove prohibited content.
Later, Roskomnadzor head Andrey Lipov said that the fines are an effective means of pressuring Google, and that slowing its services would not be pursued for now.
However, if the threats from any of the social networks outweigh the benefits, they will apply ‘more radical measures’.
Earlier, for failing to remove prohibited content, Russian courts also fined TikTok, VKontakte and Telegram.
