The Russian Ministry of Economic Development has sent to the Finance Ministry proposals on regulating cryptocurrencies and mining, writes «Газета.Rу» citing the ministry’s press service.
The ministry proposed setting an electricity usage threshold for individual miners. Details of the calculation are not yet developed.
The Ministry of Economic Development also proposed connecting mining farms to energy sources at reduced tariffs. According to ministry representatives, such tariffs should apply regardless of the connection point.
The ministry proposed allowing cryptocurrency mining in regions with a persistent electricity surplus — Irkutsk, Murmansk, and Novosibirsk Oblasts, as well as the Khabarovsk and Krasnoyarsk krais, and the Republic of Khakassia.
As reported, in the Ministry of Energy proposed to introduce regional quotas for mining, while the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Construction of the Russian Federation to establish an experimental legal regime for cryptocurrency mining.
The head of the State Duma committee on the financial markets, Anatoly Aksakov, believes that mining in Russia can be allowed only for legal entities, whereas the Finance Ministry speaks of the futility of banning household mining.
