Russia’s Ministry of Digital Development says blockchain voting system ran without glitches during Duma by-elections

In the operation of the blockchain-based remote electronic voting system used in the State Duma by-elections, no ‘significant glitches’ were recorded. This was stated by the Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media Maksut Shadaev, according to TASS.

According to him, no ‘systemic problems of electronic voting’ were detected.

“We had, I think, a single complaint related to using an old browser. Everything else, as far as I understand, was normal” Shadaev said.

In the press service of Waves Enterprise, which developed the system jointly with Rostelecom, ForkLog confirmed that there were no technological glitches.

Rostelecom head Mikhail Oseyevsky also noted that the system had not been subjected to serious cyberattacks:

“Our information security divisions worked all 60 hours, shift after shift. And no incidents of any kind occurred.”

Earlier, the blockchain system was used for the Duma by-elections in the Yaroslavl and Kursk regions.

Shortly before the start of the elections, the system’s key algorithm source codes were posted in open access, and its overview was published on Rostelecom’s blog on Habr.
