The share of cryptocurrency holders among Norway’s adult population in 2018-2021 nearly doubled, reaching 10%. This is stated in a joint study by Arcane Research and Ernst & Young.
The authors surveyed residents of Norway to determine how the popularity of digital currencies changed among them in 2021, and compared the data with figures from previous years. Their key findings:
- The total number of cryptocurrency holders rose by 120,000 to 420,000. This is almost twice the level in 2018 (210,000).
- 19% of Norway’s residents aged 15-39 own crypto assets. Older Norwegians are less inclined to invest in cryptocurrencies and prefer the stock market.
- 14% of adult men own digital currencies. Among all women, the share of crypto investors is 6% — twice as high as a year earlier.
- 10% of crypto holders use DeFi apps. 19% of the surveyed adult Norwegians know what decentralised finance is.
- In portfolios, 67% of crypto owners hold Bitcoin, 42% — Ethereum. XRP ranks third in popularity (held by 23% of crypto investors).
Earlier, a Huobi Group survey showed that 68% of US crypto investors made their first transaction in 2021.
