Ubisoft to join Hedera Hashgraph governing council

The video-game publisher Ubisoft and the nonprofit organization driving Hedera Hashgraph’s ecosystem, the HBAR Foundation, have entered into a partnership aimed at supporting network growth and launching next-generation games on it.

The company will join Hedera’s governing council and will also operate a node.

Under the Ubisoft Entrepreneurs Lab initiative, the parties will identify promising projects on the Hedera network, providing them with investment, training and other support.

The blockchain chief at Ubisoft’s Strategic Innovation Lab, Didier Genève, noted that the company regards distributed ledger technology as “the key to the future of games”.

“The Hedera network offers a promising approach to this technology, in particular thanks to its scalability, energy efficiency and innovative consensus mechanism”, — said he.

On February 3, the Hedera team announced the launch of the second version of EVM-compatible smart contracts on the mainnet.

It is expected that Smart Contracts 2.0 will provide developers with lower and more predictable gas fees. Alongside users, they will gain more capability and flexibility in applying the solution.

In April 2021, Ubisoft joined the Tezos blockchain ecosystem as a corporate validator.

In December, the company, in partnership with the project, launched a beta version of the Quartz platform for trading in-game items in NFT format.

The integration of digital assets faced sharp criticism from players, but Ubisoft said it would continue to expand NFT support.
