Ukraine’s Ministry of Digital Transformation signals blockchain focus in anti-corruption drive

The Center for Strategic and International Studies held a panel discussion on the role of blockchain technology in public administration, with representatives from Ukraine’s Ministry of Digital Transformation taking part.

Officials from the ministry continue to improve online services for citizens and businesses. They say the blockchain technology creates new opportunities for digitising public services.

“In particular, blockchain can reliably protect public registries from unauthorized interference, increase their transparency and reduce the level of corruption in the agencies that administer them,” said representatives of the Ministry of Digital Transformation.

In addition, the technology helps document Russia’s war crimes:

“For example, the Dokaz project from Starling Lab records and digitizes evidence of Russian terror using blockchain. Such an initiative is very important for establishing justice in international courts.”

At present, the Ministry is examining international experience of blockchain use in the public sector and developing its own strategy for implementing Web3 technologies in the country.

Earlier in May, Ukraine, together with analytics firm Chainalysis and U.S. authorities, began tracking sanctions evasion by Russians.
