Ukraine’s ProZorro to Auction Bitcoin

The Ukrainian government procurement platform ProZorro has put 0.1 BTC up for auction. Bidding will commence on May 14 with a starting price of ₴188,000 (~$4700).

This is the first time such a lot has been offered. Both legal entities and individuals may participate in the auction, provided they submit the necessary documents.

Participants are required to make a guarantee deposit of ₴9400.

The bidding increment is set at ₴1880.

This state-initiated sale of digital assets will not be the largest. For instance, in January, Finland sold bitcoins worth approximately €73 million, with the proceeds directed to aid Ukraine.

The U.S. government handles the most significant sums in the first cryptocurrency. In 2023, Casa’s CTO Jameson Lopp calculated that losses from the “hasty” sale of assets confiscated from criminals by authorities amounted to $5.1 billion.

In May alone, U.S. law enforcement confiscated 3940 BTC (~$249 million) from an Indian-origin drug dealer.
