Unknown hackers have hacked crypto YouTube accounts.

Hackers targeted several popular crypto YouTube channels and posted videos in their names urging viewers to send money. Analyst Mr. Whale said.

The victims of the attack are believed to be the following channels:

  • BitBoy Crypto (1.45 million subscribers);
  • The Moon (553 thousand subscribers);
  • Crypto Banter (538 thousand subscribers);
  • MMCrypto (530 thousand subscribers);
  • Altcoin Buzz (364 thousand subscribers);
  • CoinMarketCap (344 thousand subscribers);
  • aantonop (308 thousand subscribers);
  • Boxmining (268 thousand subscribers);
  • FloydMayweather (195 thousand subscribers);
  • Moralis Web3 (60 thousand subscribers).

As of this writing, ten transfers totaling 2.28 BNB (about $839 at current rates) have been made to the address on the Binance Smart Chain cited by the scammers. Of these, 2.2 BNB were sent to another wallet.

The information about the hack was confirmed by the Boxmining channel author. According to him, the account was protected by two-factor authentication.

A Reddit user with the handle 9Oh8m8 said the scam video is titled ONE WORLD CRYPTOCURRENCY. Viewers are urged to send Ethereum, Binance Coin or stablecoins USDT and USDC to allegedly obtain the new cryptocurrency OWCY.

In January, the owners of the fake YouTube channel of MicroStrategy head Michael Saylor swindled 26 BTC from an unknown user.

In December 2021, the attackers hacked Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s personal Twitter account and, on his behalf, posted about legalising Bitcoin in the country.

The year before, his account was hacked — when unknown parties posted a fake appeal to transfer funds in cryptocurrency.

Earlier, high-profile attacks targeted the accounts of Elon Musk, Bill Gates and other celebrities. In March 2021, the hacker who hacked Graham Clarke was sentenced to three years in prison with a subsequent probation.

As noted, in 2021 cryptocurrency scammers earned a record $14 billion, according to analytics firm Chainalysis.
