US court orders former Twitter employee to hand over data to Elon Musk

A court partially granted the motion by American billionaire Elon Musk to obtain data from Twitter employees about how the social network operates. Business Insider, citing sources familiar with the situation, reports.

The publication reports that the petition was secretly filed last week. Judge Kathleen McCormick ordered Twitter to provide data held by former head of product development Kayvon Beykpour.

The latter allegedly had access to information and documents related to bot-activity analysis on the social network.

According to the publication, Musk’s lawyers filed another motion demanding that Twitter provide additional documents on user statistics and on the methods of data collection and processing.

Kayvon Beykpour joined Twitter in 2018. At that time, the platform was led by Jack Dorsey. In May this year Beykpour left the company.

In April 2022, billionaire offered to buy Twitter at a price of $54.2 per share. The company’s management agreed to the terms.

However in May, Musk halted the process after reports of inflated audience metrics. In turn, Twitter shareholders sued over the ‘chaotic process’ of the takeover, accusing the Tesla chief of market manipulation.

In July, Musk stated that he was terminating the agreement to acquire the social network. The company filed a lawsuit against him, demanding that he fulfill obligations and complete the purchase.

On July 29, the billionaire filed a countersuit, with the documents not yet publicly available. He also said he was prepared to close the deal on the original terms if Twitter reveals the method for sampling 100 accounts and the method for verifying their authenticity.

Recently Twitter’s lawyers summoned Binance’s crypto-exchange division to court over the funding allocated to Musk’s bid for the social network. The summons were also served on financial advisers, investors and potential lenders to the entrepreneur.

Earlier, Elon Musk called Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal to public debates about the share of bots on the platform.
