
US university begins accepting Bitcoin for tuition payments
Bentley University partners with Coinbase to accept cryptocurrency tuition payments.
Bentley University (BU), a private university, in partnership with cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase, has added the ability to pay tuition in cryptocurrencies. The university’s site says so, according to.
“Bentley University is at the forefront of educating business leaders with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in a changing global economy. We are proud to be using the technology that our students study,” said Labrent Krait, president of BU.
Students and their families will be able to make payments in Bitcoin, Ethereum, or USD Coin (USDC) stablecoins. The university also plans to accept donations in the same assets.
According to the announcement, student interest also helped spur the creation of a new course in crypto-finance. It will launch in the fall and will focus on blockchain applications and the DeFi sector.
Equinox, a network of luxury fitness clubs, has taken a similar step. In partnership with payment processor BitPay, the company allows gym members in New York to pay annual memberships with Bitcoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, Dogecoin, Litecoin, Shiba Inu, WBTC and five stablecoins: BUSD, DAI, GUSD, USDP and USDC.

Earlier, cryptocurrencies via BitPay were accepted by cloud-based platform Wix, American online retailer Shop.com and a number of other companies.
In 2022, nearly a quarter of small retailers in nine countries planned to accept digital currencies as a form of payment, according to a Visa survey.
