Vinnik’s defence lodges cassation appeal against French court verdict

The defence of Russian Alexander Vinnik, whom a French court found guilty of money laundering, filed a cassation appeal against the verdict. This was reported by ТАСС, the lawyer Frédéric Belo said.

“We filed an appeal against the Paris Court of Appeal’s decision to uphold the five-year prison sentence for money laundering as part of a criminal group,” he said.

The lawyers deem the verdict baseless, as were the previous charges dismissed earlier by the judges.

Earlier, in late 2020, the Paris court sentenced Alexander Vinnik to five years in prison and a €100 000 fine.

The defence filed an appeal, but the court confirmed the first-instance ruling.
