Ethereum cofounder Vitalik Buterin complained about verified scammers on Twitter impersonating him.

So many scam accounts have blue checkmarks these days.

“There are so many scammers with blue checkmarks these days. It seems like a complete failure of their current format,” he wrote.

To back up his words, Buterin attached a screenshot of a verified account renamed to vitalik.eth. The profile name matches that of the Ethereum cofounder; only the handle differs. The “clone” allegedly conducts an ETH airdrop.

“I definitely think it makes sense to move Twitter to an open API and allow third parties to try to build the best user interface to solve these problems,” wrote Buterin.

Earlier, Twitter flooded with fake profiles of the Ethereum cofounder, which advertised fraudulent cryptocurrency airdrops on the eve of the activation of The Merge. That prompted Buterin to mock the situation.

Earlier in April, Elon Musk proposed to buy Twitter for $43 billion. Initially, Twitter’s leadership не оценило предложение, but later reconsidered its position, approving the deal at $44 billion. Buterin supported the idea of acquiring the company.

In May, Musk paused the deal after reports of inflated audience metrics for the social network. Twitter shareholders filed a lawsuit against him over the “chaotic process” of the acquisition.

In July the billionaire announced the termination of the deal to acquire the social network. He also stated that he would be prepared to close the deal on the original terms if Twitter reveals the method for sampling 100 accounts and the means of verifying their authenticity.
