Volgograd region carried out a large-scale blockchain vote.

The Waves Enterprise Voting blockchain service was used at a competition of residents’ initiative projects in the Volgograd region. More than 370,000 citizens participated in the vote, ForkLog representatives said.

As a result, local authorities will fund 301 public initiatives.

“A blockchain-based voting system guarantees anonymity and uninterrupted operation, protects against vote manipulation and technical interference in the results of the elections,” said Dmitry Zavyalov, deputy chairman of the Volgograd region finance committee.

The voting process used all key capabilities of Waves Enterprise Voting. Distributed key generation guaranteed protection of intermediate voting results, and blind signing and homomorphic encryption of ballots ensured voter anonymity.

“Such services genuinely enable the principles of direct democracy, where citizens directly initiate and decide major general and local decisions, and blockchain technology ensures transparency and reliability of the entire voting process,” added Igor Kuzmichev, commercial director of Waves Enterprise.

In November 2020, Waves Enterprise launched remote electronic voting service on the blockchain, developed in collaboration with Rostelecom.

Earlier, the system was tested in elections in Kursk and Yaroslavl regions. More than 30,000 people participated in them.
