Wintermute CEO Criticizes Buterin for Attempting to "Build Socialism"

The hypothetical collapse of Ethereum will not occur due to Solana’s higher TPS, but rather because of the duality in its leaders’ positions, according to Wintermute CEO Evgeny Gaevoy.

The head of the market maker responded to recent statements by Vitalik Buterin regarding celebrities’ “experiments” with meme coins.

The co-founder of the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization urged a focus on projects aimed at public goods rather than enriching insiders. He cited the NFT collection and animated series Stoner Cats by Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis from 2021 as “more honorable” celebrity involvement.

Gaevoy believes blockchain fosters the development of incentive-based capitalist systems. Buterin and Uniswap co-founder Hayden Adams attempt to address related issues by advocating for socially worthy goals and asserting this commitment among key developers. The expert also recalled the “endless attempts to deal with MEV.”

The Wintermute CEO is convinced that one cannot simultaneously build a capitalist and a planned socialist system. For this reason, Gaevoy prefers the former, despite its “ugly reputation,” because “it actually works.”

“You either create capitalism or planned socialism. Sorry, but you really can’t have both,” he emphasized.

In May, Buterin listed five blockchain architectural decisions he would like to change if possible.
