WisdomTree Files with SEC to Launch Ethereum ETF
The financial giant WisdomTree, with $70 billion in assets under management, filed a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to launch ETF based on Ethereum.
According to the document, WisdomTree Ethereum Trust shares will be listed on Cboe BZX. The company will later determine the custodian and the instrument’s ticker.
The ETF’s pricing mechanism is built on the same methodology used by CME to compute Ethereum futures quotes.
In April 2021, the SEC began reviewing WisdomTree’s application for the launch of a Bitcoin-ETF. The asset manager was the second, after VanEck, to file for listing an Ethereum ETF in the United States.
In the same month, Canadian regulators permitted trading on the Toronto Stock Exchange of three exchange-traded funds based on the second-largest cryptocurrency from Purpose Investments, CI Global Asset Management and Evolve Funds Group. Later received approval for an Ethereum ETF from 3iQ Corp and CoinShares.
