WisdomTree to launch its own digital wallet in 2023

The asset-management firm WisdomTree will begin beta-testing its mobile crypto wallet this summer, and in 2023 the app will be available to all U.S. clients. The Block reported this, citing Jason Gatri, head of the firm’s digital assets division.

In the initial phase, users will gain access to tokenized versions of assets. Among the latest, Gatri listed the U.S. dollar, U.S. government bonds, gold, Bitcoin and Ethereum. He noted that the list would be expanded in the future.

According to him, WisdomTree aims to give clients full banking-system functionality while shedding morally outdated technologies. Gatri stressed that blockchain-based systems are serious competition to traditional finance.

“I don’t think the financial services sector ever had its ‘Internet moment’. People fill out online forms, but nominally they are identical to those filled out 20 years ago in bank branches. The user experience and the business model are fundamentally the same. And I believe it’s time to disrupt this order,” he said.

In March 2022 the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission pushed back the deadline for a decision on the company’s application to May 15.
