Brave Browser Cuts Workforce by 14%

The crypto-friendly startup Brave Software has reduced its workforce by 27 employees, approximately 14% of its staff. This marks the second round of layoffs in the past 10 months, reports TechCrunch.

The company confirmed the layoffs but did not specify the reasons behind them.

According to PitchBook estimates, Brave employs 190 people.

The previous round occurred in October 2023 due to “expense management in a challenging economic environment.”

According to the latest report, the browser supported by the firm has approximately 80 million monthly active users, up from 65 million at the end of 2023.

In 2017, the startup raised approximately $35 million through a token sale.

The browser offers several built-in cryptocurrency services, such as a non-custodial wallet and access to IPFS.

In March 2023, Brave added a Summarizer feature to its search engine, based on various language models, to provide concise and informative answers.

In November, the chat assistant Leo was made available to desktop users.

In June 2024, ForkLog reported on plans to integrate search results from Brave Search into its chatbot.
