Elon Musk Sparks Surge in ‘Gork Tokens’

Elon Musk changed his name and profile picture on X to gorklon rust, triggering a sharp rise in related meme coins, with some doubling in value within a day.

Gork is a parody account of Grok, the AI from Musk’s startup xAI. The character is known for provocative responses and has amassed over 116,000 followers on X.

Within hours of the post, new gork coins emerged. Some projects saw prices rise by about 100%, and the market capitalization of the New XAI Gork (GORK) token exceeded $62 million, ranking third in CoinGecko’s trending list.

Musk announced the name change with a brief message:

“Hey, Gork, changed my avatar to yours. What do you think?”

The Gork account replied:

“Looks fine. But why copy my entire face?”

The excitement began to fade as quickly as it arose, with some tokens dropping in value by tens of percent in the last hour.

Back in March, journalist Colin Wu reported that Grok, after a series of leading questions, suggested the name GrokCoin for its meme coin and provided a contract address.
